Lyndsey May from Eccleston was "broken" last year but finding belly dancing changed her life for the better and now she hopes to help others.

She said: “Early last year my dad was diagnosed with different types of cancer, I lost my dear Nan who was my soul mate and best friend, then I was forced to move house as my landlord decided to seize our rental property.

“I had to take a step back from my other responsibilities in my work as I didn’t have the energy to give, but during what has been the toughest year of my life, belly dance has brought colour, hope, laughter and uplifting vibes and support from my girls in class.

“The music, the colour, the movement, the kindness, the warmth and smiles. Going to work always uplifted me and it saved my life.”

Lyndsey is now a trained Belly Dancing coach and has launched Starry Eyed Belly Dance where she teaches five classes a week in St Helens.

The 45-year-old added: “The benefits of our class are unlimited the dance class supports you physical and mental well-being, it promotes fitness, it’s suitable for everyone no matter your age, shape or size.

“I have seen women come to my class that are shy and a little withdrawn however when the music plays and they have learnt the routine they really do shine.

“I guess my story is no matter what life throws at you there is always light and hope, there is always support in places you may not find.

“All these women that attend my classes are normal ladies who have normal lifestyles. Yet once a week they become a colourful vibrant goddess, finding their confidence, they have a reason to smile and shine and dance there joy. Our oldest dancer yet is 87 years old.”

The group recently performed at The Liberty Centre and host classes at Silhouette Dance Club on Tuesdays at 7pm and Wednesdays at 5.45pm and 6.45pm. For more info please visit the Facebook page: Click Here >>  Starry Eyed Belly Dancing – Facebook Page
